Thanks for writing such a good piece on Japan. I also think there is a renewed interest in design (whether driven by actual interest or social media tbd) and Japan has an amazing design culture and ethos that is not easily repeatable. I will also say, though it’s a very popular tourist destination, it didn’t feel given over to tourists in the way other places that rely heavily on tourism can. I guess we shall see if that holds.

Very true - the attention to detail and the design in these hotels in absolutely incredible. I love the giant sea cucumber made of wood in the lobby of the Peninsula Tokyo for example.

It is hands down my top three destination I will return to time and time again! From a hospitality perspective, it’s unparalleled. Have you been before?

I loved my trip, can't wait to go back someday. Dollar strength was a great tailwind, but i think that has faded a touch.

Japan’s hospitality feels different because so much is handled before you have to ask. Timing, food preferences, room details, small adjustments.

That is hard to train unless the culture is already there.

Yes! I think it’s such an incredible experience as a guest there
